Recover

Real value from every device

Secure collection, certified data erasure and full reporting. Every device accounted for. Every outcome documented.

Process

How Recover works

Recover manages your end-of-life devices so you get real value back, not just secure disposal. Every collection is scanned, wiped and graded to certified standards, then reported back to your team with a clear view of what each device was worth.

Step 1

Plan the collection

Canopy confirms volumes, timing and logistics with your team. Boxes and packing instructions come to you, so nothing on the setup side falls on your team.

Step 2

Collect

A courier handles the transport. Every device is scanned and accounted for from the moment it leaves your site.

Step 3

Grade and wipe

Devices are tested, securely wiped to certified data destruction standards, and graded for value. Each one is documented before anything leaves the grading floor.

Step 4

Responsible Tech.

Every device Canopy processes is tracked and reported on. Every device that can be reused, is, reducing waste and supporting your ESG commitments.

Impact

What Recover delivers

Device management shouldn't be complicated.
Canopy is built to make it simple, from first deployment to next use.

Real value returned

Devices are graded and refurbished for resale wherever they still hold value. Buy-back payments come back to your business, so retiring devices generates return instead of cost.

Certified data destruction

Every device is securely wiped to certified standards, with documentation on every unit. Your team has a clear audit trail for every device that goes through the process.

Reporting your whole business can use

One lifecycle report per collection, covering what was processed, what it was worth and the sustainability outcomes. Ready to share across finance, IT and ESG.

A process that runs the same way, every time

Every collection follows the same process, so your team knows what to expect from booking through to buy-back.

Managed service providers

Managed service providers offering hardware lifecycle services. Canopy takes on the end-of-life stage for your clients, so you can offer more without taking more on.

Large enterprise organisations

Organisations retiring significant volumes of devices across multiple sites. Canopy gives your finance, IT and ESG teams one clear report per collection, so everyone gets what they need without chasing it.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about working with Canopy, from our services and security standards to what happens to every device.

How is data erasure certified?

Every device Canopy processes is securely wiped to NIST 800-88 certified data destruction standards, with an individual certificate issued for each unit. Certificates document what was wiped, when, and to what standard, giving your team a full audit trail for compliance, security and reporting purposes.

What kinds of devices does Canopy recover?

Canopy collects laptops, desktops, mobile phones, tablets and other business hardware across major manufacturers. Whatever devices your business is retiring, Recover handles the collection, secure transport, data destruction and value assessment. If you're not sure whether a device is in scope, get in touch and we'll confirm before you book.

What happens to devices Canopy collects?

Devices with remaining value are graded, refurbished and resold through Canopy's channels, with buy-back payments returned to your business. Devices at true end-of-life are responsibly recycled through certified partners, and the sustainability outcomes are reported to you as part of the lifecycle report. Every device is accounted for, whether it's resold, recycled or written off.

Do I get paid for retiring business devices?

Yes. Canopy's Recover service includes buy-back payments for devices with remaining resale value. Value is assessed through Canopy's grading process and documented in your lifecycle report, and buy-back payments follow settlement. Businesses using Recover typically see meaningful returns from devices they'd otherwise write off as end-of-life.

How is device value calculated?

Device value is assessed through Canopy's value-led grading process, which considers the device's age, condition, specification and current resale market. Each device is graded individually, so buy-back offers reflect what your hardware is actually worth today, not a fleet-average estimate. You receive a per-device breakdown as part of your lifecycle report.

How long does the device recovery process take?

Timing depends on your collection volume, location and complexity. Standard collections are typically planned and completed within 1 week, and buy-back payments follow the lifecycle report. Canopy confirms timelines with your team at the planning stage, so you know what to expect from booking through to settlement.

What reporting do we receive?

Every collection generates one lifecycle report covering what was processed, how it was handled, what each device was worth, and the sustainability outcomes for your ESG team. The report is designed to be shared across finance, IT and ESG teams, so everyone gets the visibility they need.

What is IT asset disposition (ITAD), and how is it different from device recycling?

IT asset disposition (ITAD) is the process of retiring, wiping and disposing of business hardware in a secure and responsible way. Recycling is one part of that process, but it's not the whole picture. ITAD also covers secure data destruction, value recovery through resale, and reporting on every device retired. Canopy's Recover service is a full ITAD offering for Australian businesses, so devices with remaining value are refurbished and resold, devices at true end-of-life are responsibly recycled, and every outcome is documented and reported.
